WEEK #10 RECAP
The current edition of the Ridge Meadows Bruins are not all that far removed from the side that finished as runners-up in the BCRU Women’s 2nd Division in 2016, and they have proven to be a strong test for the Scribes whenever the two sides have met in recent years.
Saturday’s match was yet another evenly matched contest in this emergent rivalry, with the key difference being that the Bruins arrived in good form, while the Scribes spent much of the first half shaking off the rust from a three week hiatus.
A missed tackle on half-way led to the opening try of the game for the Bruins about 15 minutes in, but Scribes were able to reply before the break with a strong pickup from the base of a scrum by Cat Power, who then shoveled pass over to Whitney Paronish-Rowe for the try. At half-time Scribes trailed 7-5.
The second frame was more physical, with both sides trying to find a break in the tackle line. While the Scribes held their form in the middle, they did not have the pace to match the Bruins wingers, who were awaiting patiently for their big moment. On three separate occasions in the second half, Bruins wingers found space on the margins and raced in from long distance to add to their tally.
This match essentially came down to a trio of well worked one-on-one evasions by the Bruins wingers and the final 26-5 scoreline did not fairly reflect what a great contest this was in the physical areas, as both teams got stuck in and battled hard.
The Scribes Women will have to wait until the new year to get back at it, with their next match scheduled on January 25, 2018.
The Scribes Men had Saturday off, but return to the pitch on December 2nd to face SFU at Gordon Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:45pm.
The Scribes Minis wrap up an outstanding Fall season with training on December 3rd, then a holiday party at the Legion on December 10th.
The Scribes upcoming social calendar features a pair of big events, including the annual 12 Pubs of Christmas crawl on December 9th, and the official Scribes Christmas party on December 20th.
