Week 1 Recap: Scribes Surge into 2019

The Scribes Women’s Rugby Team began the 2019 season with a resounding 42-5 victory over the Vancouver Rowing Club on Saturday.

The Scribes displayed unprecedented pace in this game, and that speed proved to be the difference with seven of their eight tries coming from the backline. Perhaps the pivotal moment of this game, however, came from the one try where the wingers weren’t involved.

With 27 minutes played and Scribes leading 10-5, the Scribes forward pack produced a big shove at the scrum, with the ball cleverly picked off the back by Cassidy Lanting and then offloded to scrumhalf Didi Dufresne, who crossed the whitewash unopposed. Scribes would use the remainder of the match to pull further and further away from the Rowers.

Scribes also earned tries from Sonia Kung, Carolina Novoa, Whitney Paronish Rowe (2) and Emer Casey (3).

The Scribes Women and the Rowers will face each other again next Saturday at Rupert Park in East Vancouver. Kickoff time is scheduled for 11:15am.

The Scribes Men also return to the field next Saturday, hosting the Surrey Beavers at Rupert Park, starting at 12:30pm.
