Scribes Men Season Preview

The rugby season is finally here, and its going to be an exciting, dramatic and memorable journey for all involved.

The Scribes Men’s Team got the legs moving at the Chilliwack 10s last Saturday, and will ramp up the intensity with their first 15s match of the year over the Labour Day weekend.

Scribes begin their fixture list with an exhibition game in Portland on September 2, followed by their BCRU Division 2 season opener in Kamloops on September 9th. Following a pair of games in the Vancouver area against Burnaby and SFU, Scribes wrap-up a busy September with an away match in Kelowna. In total, Scribes will be logging an incredible 1500 miles on the odometer in the first month of the season.

The BCRU schedule itself promises to be long, daunting affair, with the usual semester based approach replaced by a true full-season calendar, which includes 22 matches. Wins in September will be just as important to the playoff seeding as wins in March, so it will be vital for Scribes to keep their composure early on and focus on the long-term process. Depth will equally play a major role in Scribes’ success, and given the number of games, everyone in the Scribes setup will get plenty of playing time.

NEW PLAYERS ARE INVITED TO JOIN SCRIBES RFC.

Get in touch with Scribes if you have:

  • played high school rugby and want to continue your rugby journey
  • played overseas and want to continue playing while you’re staying in Vancouver
  • played in BC or other Canadian provinces, but you are looking for a new club
  • never played before, but want to give the sport a try

Aaron O’Flaherty returns for a second season as Coach. The Scribes rejoined the very competitive BCRU Division 2 last year, and the team responded well to O’Flaherty’s leadership during that campaign. They will look to improve on their previous results against the division’s top sides and will be aiming to establish themselves as a capable, middle-of-the-table team.
