Scribes RFC enjoyed a superb fall campaign as a club. Let’s take a look back at the season that was and look ahead to an exciting Spring 2019 schedule…

Coming off a second consecutive BC Rugby Championship, the Scribes Women  successfully reloaded their roster and brought in a new Coach with the aim of moving up to Division 1 in 2020. Before they could do that, however, the team had to demonstrate that they had the roster depth and skill to make the move, and the Fall 2019 campaign allowed them to prove their case.

New to the Scribes setup was coach Cass Dudzic, as well as a half dozen new players with varying levels of rugby experience. Led by returning stalwarts and captained by Cat Power, Scribes easily bested most of their Tier 2 challengers such as Richmond and Langley, while laying down a marker against some capable Tier 1 sides like Bayside and United.

Scribes finished the Fall campaign with 231 points scored in seven games, compared to only 127 points conceded, en route to a 4-3 record. The upcoming Division 1 competition, which begins in February, should offer up some quality opponents, but Scribes are a club on the rise and seem ready to face the big challenge ahead.

The Scribes Men posted an impressive 6-2 record in the first leg of their 2019-2020 season, including victories over Abbotsford, SFU and United. Their only losses came against the top teams in the table, including a narrow defeat against Langley (7-1) on the final play of the game.

It’s safe to say that if Scribes continue to build on their recent form, they’ll need to be considered as contenders for a Division 2 championship in a few months time. Scribes are playing with great intensity, are enjoying strong work rates from the forwards and are displaying incredible agility in the backfield. All of this has combined to make Scribes one of the most capable attacking units in the competition, while a superb defensive structure has frustrated opponents.
