You can’t argue with tradition, especially if it means you get to throw a party.
The festive season officially began with the traditional 12 Pubs of Christmas last Saturday.
Legend says that almost 2,000 years ago, a promising young rugby player on tour to Jerusalem somehow found himself adjoined to a famous rabbi’s multi-venue birthday bash, and had such a good time that he brought the custom back home to Europe with him. And that, my friends, is the story of the very first 12 Pubs of Christmas.
With a total of 12 establishments to visit, this year’s traditional pub crawl was always going to be a test of endurance for Scribes, rather than speed. Many passed this test, and good times were had by all. Congrats to everyone who made it to the finish line.
Next up on the the holiday calendar is the annual Scribes Christmas Party at the Legion on December 20th. The event will be upstairs in the Scribes Rugby Lounge, starting at 7:00pm. This evening will be a fantastic opportunity for Scribes alumni to re-connect with former teammates and mingle with the current players, to whom they’ve passed down the traditions of tough Scribes rugby and classy hosting.
After the first eleven weeks of the season, the women are in third place of their division, with 4 wins, 2 losses and a draw. The lads, meanwhile, sit in ninth place of the 12-team BCRU men’s 2nd division, with 2 wins and 8 losses on the campaign.
The Scribes get back onto the field in mid January for training, with the second half of the season to follow shortly thereafter.
