About Scribes RFC
Scribes RFC is quite simply the finest Rugby Club in East Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Our club features the following teams that compete in the BC Rugby and Vancouver Rugby Union competitions:
Scribes Mini Rugby Team for boys and girls from 5-12 year olds
Scribes Junior Rugby Team 12 to 18 year olds
Each group places an emphasis on camaraderie, friendships, sportsmanship, participation and being active.
The game of Rugby Union is a challenging and physical sport, but making tackles is not for everyone – including several of our backfield players – which is why Scribes offers tag rugby during the summer months.
In 2017, Scribes celebrated 50 years together as a club. Our storied history has included many ups, downs and refills, along with some pretty darned good rugby along the way. We would be thrilled to have you join our club and be part of the next 50 years both on and off the field.

Our
History
The Scribes rugby football club was founded, in the fall of 1966, in the bar of the Newsmen’s Club of British Columbia by five players and one supporter who were all journalists. Hence the name “Scribes”. It was created to introduce the fun and spirit of rugby into what was becoming a very serious game. The club has come far both on and off the field since those days, but the intentions of the club founders have been maintained. The Scribes RFC is a member of, and plays in the Vancouver Rugby Football Union, which is a sub-union of the British Columbia Rugby Union.
The season runs from the first week in September to final playoffs in mid May. The summer season has many tournaments, and a big seven-a-side schedule. It is generally acknowledged that B.C. rugby is the best in Canada, as evidenced by the fact that we regularly place 80% of the players on all Canadian National sides (Men, Women & Juniors). The Vancouver Rugby Union is arguably one of the strongest of the B.C. sub-unions.The Scribes have traveled extensively over the years to many areas in the U.S. and Canada, including Hawaii, many times to Britain, Ireland, Belgium, Japan and New Zealand.
If you're not sure about playing, but are still interested in being part of a supporting, respectful, community, consider a social membership. There are many ways to participate and help grow the challenging, respectful and wonderful sport of rugby in East Vancouver. We work to support youth in a variety of ways, as well as the local legion.
